Tips to reduce stress

In times of stress, it is extremely important to take time for yourself and the ones you love.

By using simple steps, we can beat the stress and anxiety that has come with what has been a very difficult year. The Common Good, and our Mental Health researcher Lisa Wright, wanted to share 10 things that you can control and focus on to help reduce unnecessary stress.

It’s important to be able to identify things you can control and change in your life. These are very simple things, but together extremely powerful.

Focus on the things we can control:

  1. Having a positive attitude
  2. Limit social media
  3. Set realistic expectations
  4. Connect with friends and family
  5. Moderate your consumption
  6. Stay active
  7. Make, and stick to, a budget
  8. Protect your downtime
  9. Respond with kindness
  10. Don’t lose sight of what really counts

Accept the things that are out of your control:

  1. What others say
  2. How others feel
  3. What others do
  4. What others think
  5. Other people’s motives
  6. The future
  7. How long a situation lasts
  8. Change – it is inevitable
  9. Widespread medical issues – ie. the pandemic
  10. The weather
