Denise drives donations for cause close to her heart

If you’ve ever had a sandwich made for you at The Café for the Common Good inside The Prince Charles Hospital, you may know Denise. Not only does she whip up a delectable dish that draws a crowd, but she also regularly lends a caring ear to patients and staff when they need someone to talk to.

Denise, who has worked in the hospital café for four years, has remained active throughout her life, and she doesn’t take her health or the health of her loved ones for granted – especially her husband Stan, who has a family history of heart conditions.

Her husband takes good care of his health, exercising regularly and maintaining a nutritious diet. So too does Denise. She cycles 45 kilometres three times a week, and this year she’ll take on the Australian Unity Tour de Brisbane for the second time, riding to raise money for transplant research. And she’s also riding for her husband.

“He’s my heart, so I’ve got to look after him …and it’s always good to ride for a meaningful cause,” Denise said.

In 2022, Denise topped the event’s fundraising leaderboard, raising $3,352 for medical research. The now 61-year-old achieved this incredible feat due to her determination to make a positive impact.

“Any donation amount makes a difference. I even get donations for two dollars, but it all adds up. This is my way of doing something for other people,” Denise said.
