Our Social Enterprise Model
SERVING UP LIFE CHANGING RESEARCH
At The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, we believe in doing good through every cup of coffee, every meal served, and every catering order placed. Our social enterprise businesses including an expansive café portfolio across The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital, as well as our Brisbane catering services, are built on a simple principle: creating sustainable impact for the hospitals we support.
What makes our model unique is the strong network of value-driven partnerships with like-minded suppliers. For example, our long-standing partnership with Merlo Coffee Roasters allows us to deliver high-quality food and coffee. In addition, every purchase contributes to something bigger supporting world-class medical research and patient care.
Surplus generated through our cafés and catering help fund life-saving and life-changing research into heart disease, lung disease, mental health, and ageing, while also enhancing patient experiences at The Prince Charles Hospital and Caboolture Hospital.
Our commitment to excellence and community impact has been recognised widely. The Café for The Common Good was proud to receive the Lord Mayor’s Business Award for the Outstanding Social Enterprise and thanks to a Social Enterprise Growth Grant from the Queensland Government Department of Employment, Small Business and Training, we have been able to expand our fresh food vending machines, to providing nutritious options to staff and hospital visitors after hours.
Our Food Philosophy
The Café for The Common Good encourages a farm to plate philosophy, supporting local Queensland growers.
The menus are curated daily with an emphasis on seasonal produce. All the food is freshly prepared onsite by our fully qualified chef.
As well as barista-made Merlo coffee and hot drinks the café provides gourmet hot meals, sushi, sandwiches, soup, salads and take-home meals.
