Acknowledging our Corporate Volunteers this National Volunteer Week

Corporate volunteers who donate their time and skills at our events are invaluable in our mission to help people live healthier, longer lives.

This National Volunteer Week, we want to say a big thank you to those businesses and their employees who answer our call for help. It is because of kind people like you that we are able to offer support to so many dedicated people who are working on breakthroughs that could save lives.

Why Volunteer for The Common Good as a Corporate Team?

By you and your team members volunteering as part of our community of good people doing good things, you’re giving more time to the researchers we support who are trying to improve health outcomes for people we know and love. You’re also helping to support vital hospital equipment and patient care programs.

The list of benefits of corporate volunteering is long, and includes things like team bonding, developing new skills, building positive workplace morale and boosting interdepartmental relationships.

But don’t take our word for it. Here’s what a few of our corporate volunteers have said about their experience volunteering at events for The Common Good.

Brendan, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Australia, Giving Day Corporate Volunteering

NVWA Corporate Volunteers BrendanWhat did you do during your volunteering shift?

My volunteering role, along with five of my Coca-Cola colleagues, was to offer our support in phoning previous donors and anyone else we knew for donations.

Why did you volunteer at Giving Day?

We wanted to contribute to a cause that directly impacts the well-being of patients and their families, knowing that our efforts can make a significant difference in their lives. Additionally, we hoped to grow awareness of the work The Common Good and The Prince Charles Hospital do for the community as a whole.

How would you describe your volunteering experience?

Fun and interactive. The Common Good staff were really appreciative of our support and made it a fun day. As a team, my colleagues and I encouraged each other to achieve some value for the foundation. We also enjoyed supporting a project outside of the usual work commitments.

Would you recommend corporate volunteering to others? And why?

Yes. Volunteering at such events helps you connect with your community, creating a sense of belonging and shared purpose. Our involvement can inspire friends, family, and others in our network to also contribute their time and resources to meaningful causes.

Abbii, Headbox, Giving Day Corporate Volunteering

NVWA Corporate Volunteers AbbiWhat did you do during your volunteering shift?

Our role was to bring the good vibes. We were stationed at a pop-up donation point inside the Hospital entrance, encouraging staff, patients, and visitors to get involved and donate. It was about being upbeat, approachable, and helping drive the energy on the day to support a really important cause.

Why did you volunteer at Giving Day?

It was a no-brainer. The day was all about raising money for the kids and their families, supporting the hospital’s research programs, and bringing the community together to support one another. It also gave us a chance to step away from our usual work and do something that genuinely helps people. It felt right to show up and support in person.

How would you describe your volunteering experience?

Real and rewarding. Being in the hospital environment puts things into perspective. You see firsthand who the fundraising is helping. It felt good to do something meaningful, and as a team, it brought us closer together. We had the pleasure of meeting someone who had been personally impacted by the hospital’s support. She just so happened to be there for a check-up that day. She shared her story and told us she donates every year as a way of paying it forward to someone else in need. On top of that, the whole event brought so much joy to the children who came along – it was buzzing with community and connection.

Would you recommend corporate volunteering to others? And why?

Absolutely! Volunteering as a team is a great way to connect outside the usual workday, but more importantly, it gives you a chance to contribute to something bigger.

Verena, Esmi and Karyn, bdna, Corporate Volunteers

NVWA Corporate Volunteers BDNAWhat did you do during your volunteering shift?

We were part of the 2,000 volunteers helping serve up the iconic Ekka Strawberry Sundaes. We were on a bit of a production line — chopping strawberries, scooping ice cream, putting the sundaes together, and keeping things moving at the register. It was fast-paced but heaps of fun. The best part? Handing them over to smiling customers and knowing each sundae was helping raise funds for life-changing research at The Prince Charles Hospital.

Why did you volunteer at Ekka?

We got involved as a team from bdna because it’s such a meaningful way to give back. This was actually our third year supporting the Strawberry Sundae stall. It’s not just a great team-building activity — the cause is also close to home. The funds raised go directly into critical research for things like heart disease, lung conditions, or mental health challenges. Most of us have been touched by these issues, either personally or through someone we care about. So, for us, this is a small but powerful way to help build a healthier future for our community.

How would you describe your volunteering experience?

There’s something special about working side by side with other volunteers — you start as strangers and end up swapping stories and sharing laughs. Almost everyone had a personal reason for being there, which made the experience feel even more powerful and worthwhile.

Would you recommend corporate volunteering to others? And why?

Absolutely. Volunteering at the Ekka was such a simple but rewarding way to give back. It’s amazing how something as small as scooping ice cream can actually help fund critical research and make a real impact on people’s lives. If your workplace is thinking about doing something like this — go for it. It’s a few hours of your time, but it adds up to so much more in the bigger picture. Plus, it brings your team together in a different and meaningful way. Highly recommend it.

Jacinth, Auto & General

NVWA Corporate Volunteers JacinthWhat did you do during your volunteering shift?

I helped to cut strawberries and work as the cashier during Ekka 2024. It was an amazing opportunity that allowed me to give back to an important, amazing cause of medical research.

How would you describe your volunteering experience?

It was interesting being able to go behind the scenes of preparing the sundaes, instead of just enjoying them as a consumer. The atmosphere was electric, and my team had an amazing time preparing the sundaes like a well-oiled machine, all for a great cause!

Would you recommend corporate volunteering to others? And why?

Totally! It was very satisfying knowing our volunteering would help power crucial medical support, all while making someone’s day just a bit brighter with a great strawberry sundae.
