Steve Francia announced as the new CEO of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation

An announcement from our Chair, Chris Morton

On behalf of the Board of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation, I am pleased to announce that our search for a CEO to replace Michael Hornby OAM has been successful.

After an extensive recruitment process, we can announce that Steve Francia has been appointed to the role, commencing 6 March 2023.

Steve comes to us with excellent credentials through his previous Chief Executive and Executive Manager roles with Lifeflight Foundation, Mater Foundation, Surf Life Saving Foundation and swimwear brand Zoggs.

Steve will be inducted by our current CEO Michael (which is greatly appreciated) and speaks to the care and concern that we all have in the appointment of this important position, and the very essence of our culture. This should ensure a seamless handover from Michael to Steve.

In recent times, our Foundation has played an instrumental role in supporting the realisation of research and innovation such as changing heart transplantation and ICUs through our ICU of the Future (both projects receiving national media attention . We are soon to launch the world first Trade Health Institute. We are also releasing a new corporate social responsibility platform to support research projects which tackle chronic health conditions, which sadly impact 90% of us.

Through Michael’s outstanding leadership over the past 9 years this charity has delivered real results through the sustainable support of research and innovation. The list of achievements is long. Almost 300 research careers launched through our New Investigator grants, partnered projects tackling dementia, arthritis, lung cancer, and numerous developments across allied health services. We’ve expanded support across to Caboolture Hospital, as well as expanding our social enterprises which received the Outstanding Social Enterprise award as part of the 2020 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards. We’ve partnered with the Australian Unity Tour de Brisbane and of course, delivered the famous Ekka Strawberry Sundae programs, including during the two years when there wasn’t an Ekka.

These are incredible developments of which we are proud.  Michael’s time as CEO has created an incredible legacy, not the least of which has been the ability to create a research funding model that is able to be funded for just $48 per hour.

We will be soon celebrating Michael’s contribution to The Common Good, as he moves into his new exciting career adventure. However, for now, we at The Common Good can feel very comfortable in the knowledge that, in Steve Francia, we have appointed someone who will complement and advance this wonderful legacy.
